Hongaku-in本覚院
Shukubo (Temple Guesthouse) Information
This shokubo was built in 1190 by Gyouku at the invitation of Kojijyu, during the period of Kounin, it is the place where Kobo Daishi sculptured and enshrined the Jizo Bosatsu, you can stay in the current precincts of Honkakuin and read sutra, and bathe in the light that appears to emit from the statue of Jizo Bodhisattva, a feeling of happyness established from the 12 shokubo, being called Kobo due to always taking the Lotus Sutra. During the Genroku period of the Emperor Higashiyama, Kobo was changed to Hon-kakuin in honor of Kojijyu.
